The First World Flight Elisa Law, Executive Director, Friends of Magnuson Park and Pat Dolan, Board Member of the Swedish Club.

In 1924, eight Army Air Corps fliers in four Douglas World Cruiser airplanes lifted off from Lake Washington (Sand Point Airfield) and embarked on a 175-day journey around the world. In 2024, Washingtonians will mark 100 years since their historic landing back in Seattle and Friends of Magnuson Park is leading the effort.

Elisa Law (MA Museology, University of Washington) is a Seattle-born and raised museologist and public historian. Before she was brought on board as Executive Director and Centennial Coordinator at Friends of Magnuson Park, she built a surprising resume, traveling Indian Country filming documentaries with Project 562, running development projects and becoming an honorary chief on a remote Samoan Island in the Peace Corps and studying the emergence of Buddhist temple museums in Japan. In addition to her current work with Friends, she manages book projects for History Link, a museum renovation for Vashon Heritage Museum, and manages grants to save the historic Tokeland Hotel. The connective thread of her background in cultural heritage, education, and project management is a passion for storytelling. Don’t miss her thrilling rendition of the 1924 First World Flight.

Patrick Dolan is lifetime Seattleite and a longtime member and board member of the Swedish Club.  For the last 9 years he has been the organizer of the Seattle History Field Trips Meetup group, where his has lead numerous field trips in and around Historic Seattle.  He is also an avid follower of the Southwest Seattle Historical Society.

This event will be held virtually, via Zoom on August 8, 2024, at 6pm. A link to join this event will be emailed to registered participants on the day of the event.
